Edward’s Mob
Edward Solien – Founder, Cultural Nexus Indigenous Corporation
Edward Solien is a proud Torres Strait Islander with a deep-rooted connection to Badu Island and Papua New Guinean heritage. As a strong advocate for intersectionality, Edward recognises the complex layers of identity, culture, health, and belonging that shape the lived experiences of Indigenous peoples, particularly those navigating multiple marginalised identities.
A dedicated leader in the Indigenous space, Edward’s journey has been profoundly shaped by his lived experience as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community and as someone managing chronic illnesses, including severe heart failure, autoimmune pancreatitis, and type 2 diabetes. These experiences have fuelled his passion for creating safe, inclusive, and culturally grounded spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who often find themselves at the crossroads of multiple social and systemic barriers.
Cultural Nexus Indigenous Corporation was born out of Edward’s vision to bridge the gaps between culture, identity, and opportunity. To him, a cultural nexus is more than just a meeting point—it is the convergence of ancestral knowledge, contemporary lived realities, and future aspirations. It represents a space where Black voices, traditions, and struggles are acknowledged, respected, and empowered to shape their own narratives. For Black people, particularly those who exist at the intersection of Indigeneity, queerness, and chronic health conditions, this nexus is essential. It is a place of belonging, resilience, and self-determination—one that rejects invisibility and embraces the full spectrum of who we are.
Through Cultural Nexus Indigenous Corporation, Edward is committed to fostering real change by amplifying voices that have long been ignored, creating pathways for economic and social empowerment, and ensuring that no one has to walk the journey alone.
Edward is a Certified Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Specialist and a Certified Human Resources Business Partner, with extensive experience fostering inclusive workplace cultures. He has chaired numerous executive steering committees, demonstrating exceptional leadership and strategic insight in guiding organisational change and aligning initiatives with cultural and business priorities.
